Anti-Stall Knobs

The NF-S12A's Anti-Stall Knobs reduce flow separation in medium to high impedance situations, increasing the fan's stall margin. This enhances versatility and improves performance on heatsinks and radiators.

AAO Frame

Noctua's AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frame integrates anti-vibration pads along with proprietary Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, further refining performance and noise efficiency.

Stepped Inlet Design

This design introduces turbulence to the airflow, reducing tonal intake noise, improving flow attachment, and increasing suction capacity, particularly in space-restricted environments.

Inner Surface Microstructures

The blade tips interact with the boundary layer created by the Inner Surface Microstructures, suppressing flow separation from the suction side of the blades. This results in reduced blade passing noise and improved airflow and pressure efficiency.

Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads

Made from extra-soft silicone, these pads minimize vibration transmission while maintaining compatibility with standard screws and mounting systems.

Custom-Designed PWM IC with SCD

Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the NF-S12A PWM uses Noctua’s NE-FD1 PWM IC with Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. SCD suppresses PWM switching noises, making the fan quieter at low speeds.

Stops at 0% PWM

When set to 0% PWM duty cycle by the motherboard or fan controller, the fan stops entirely, enabling semi-passive cooling for silent operation when thermals allow.

Low-Noise Adaptor

The included Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.) reduces the maximum speed from 1200 RPM to 900 RPM. It can be used to cap the fan speed when using PWM control or to run the fan at a fixed 900 RPM.

Extensive Cabling Options

A short 20cm primary cable minimizes clutter, while a 30cm extension cable provides additional reach when needed. Fully sleeved cables and a 4-pin y-cable allow connecting a second fan to the same PWM header for automatic control.

SSO2 Bearing

The NF-S12A features Noctua’s second-generation SSO bearing, where the rear magnet is positioned closer to the axis for enhanced stabilization, precision, and durability.

Metal Bearing Shell

A CNC-milled brass bearing shell ensures high manufacturing precision, minimal tolerance, and exceptional long-term stability.
