On paper the 9950X3D2 looks similar to its predecessor. It's still 16 cores and 32 threads on the AM5 socket, still Zen 5 architecture, still boosting to 5.6GHz. But the architecture underneath is meaningfully different. Where the original 9950X3D applied 104MB of 3D V-Cache to one CCD and left the other bare, the 9950X3D2 Dual Edition stacks 104MB of second-generation 3D V-Cache onto each CCD. The imbalance that required tools like Process Lasso to wrangle threads onto the right chiplet? Gone. All 16 cores are now pulling from the same deep cache well.
The TDP has risen from 170W to 200W to accommodate the additional silicon, making it the highest TDP AM5 processor to date. AMD recommends liquid cooling, and we'd agree, this chip is built to run hard.
