How to Choose the Workstation Specs
Processor
Corona is CPU-based rendering engine, and like all CPU-based renderers it benefits from processors with a high core count. AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper processors offer chart-topping performance in Corona, however if you’re looking for a more reasonably priced solution, AMD’s Ryzen 9 processors, and Intel’s Core i9 processors are great options for the price.
Graphics Card
Because rendering in Corona is purely CPU-based, it doesn’t make use of a workstation’s graphics card. The exception to this is the optional preview denoiser, which is accelerated by Nvidia’s AI Tensor Cores. We recommend considering the requirements of your host application (3ds Max or Cinema 4D), as the performance of the graphics card will affect the viewport framerate in those applications.
Memory
The amount of memory required to run Corona well will depend on the complexity of the projects that you are working on. We recommend a minimum of 32GB of RAM to prevent running into memory issues, and 64GB+ for users rendering more complex models.
