How to Choose the Workstation Specs
Processor
AutoCAD is primarily single-threaded in it's design, and therefore benefits from processors with a high single-core clock speed over a high core count. This makes Intel's Core i7 and i9 processors excellent choices for 3D modelling in AutoCAD. If your workload involves a lot of CPU-based rendering, we suggest considering processors with higher core counts.
Graphics Card
The graphics card is responsible for displaying your model on the screen, and the level of complexity of the model will dictate the GPU requirements. While Nvidia's GeForce cards are often favoured for their improved performance-per-dollar vs. their professional-tier counterparts, they are not officially supported by AutoCAD, so we recommend going with a mid-range Nvidia RTX workstation-class card if your budget allows.
Memory
AutoCAD's memory requirements are relatively light, however, given the low cost differential between 16GB and 32GB of RAM, we recommend speccing a minimum of 32GB of RAM on all 3D modelling workstations. It may be worth considering other applications in your workflow to determine whether or not 64GB of RAM may be required.
