Workstations for Chaos Group V-Ray

Rip through your renders in record time with one of our tailor-made V-Ray workstations

V-Ray: A Powerful Engine for Realistic and Detailed Renders

V Ray, created by Chaos Group, is renowned for its performance and photorealistic renderings. V Ray is widely used in architecture, film production and game development for tasks related to illumination, shading and rendering. Its ability to create images and animations has made it a standard tool in visual effects and design industries.

How to Choose the Workstation Specs

  • Processor

V-Ray is available with either a CPU-based (V-Ray CPU), or GPU-based (V-Ray GPU) rendering engine. However, as of V-Ray version 3.6, you are now able to use both simultaneously, so it is worth investing in a high-core count processor, and if you are planning on using multiple video cards, one that has enough direct processor PCI-e lanes. AMD’s Threadripper processors are top of the class for CPU rendering workloads, and offer plenty of PCI-e lanes.

  • Graphics Card

If you plan to use V-Ray’s GPU-based renderer, a high-end video card will reduce your render times significantly. Multiple video cards can be used to both increase processing power, but to increase the pool of available VRAM, which is essential for larger, more complex scenes. Where maximising VRAM is required, Nvidia’s professional-grade RTX cards may be the best option, as they generally have more VRAM than their GeForce RTX counterparts.

  • Memory

The amount of memory required to run V-Ray well will depend on the complexity of the projects that you are working on. 32GB should be enough for most users, however we recommend at least 64GB for users who are running multiple high-end video cards. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend at least double the amount of RAM as you have VRAM across your graphics cards.
