How to Choose the Workstation Specs

  • Processor

    Processing workloads within OctaneRender is largely single-threaded, so clock speed wins over overall core-count, making Intel’s Core i7 and i9 processors, as well as AMD’s Ryzen 7 and 9 processors ideal for this application. It is also important to consider the number of PCI-e lanes available from the CPU when running multiple graphics cards (GPUs).

  • Graphics card

    Graphics card performance is critical if you are looking to have a good user experience in OctaneRender. Performance scales fairly linearly as you go up the Nvidia GeForce RTX product stack, with higher-end GPUs with larger VRAM pools delivering a significant reduction in render times. OctaneRender also supports multiple video cards, and you are only limited by the number of PCI-e lanes available from you processor, and the power that can be supplied from your power supply.

  • Memory

    At a minimum we recommend 32GB for workstations running OctaneRender, however users working on more demanding projects should look at least 64GB or RAM to ensure an uninterrupted workflow.
