Processor
The specific CPU or CPU family that we recommend for workloads within Houdini depends on the specific tasks that you are undertaking. Modelling an animation benefits greatly from high-clock speed processors such as Intel’s Core i7, i9, as well as AMD’s Ryzen 7 and 9 processors. For complex simulation workloads, more memory may be needed, requiring you to go beyond the memory constraints of mainstream desktop platforms and onto an HEDT platform such as AMD’s Threadripper.

Graphics Card
The performance of the graphics card installed in a Houdini workstation dictates the framerate that the viewport is able to run at, directly impacting the user experience. We recommend a mid-range Nvidia GeForce RTX card for most users, however users working on more demanding workloads may benefit from the extra performance and VRAM provided by Nvidia’s high-end offerings.

At a minimum we recommend 32GB for workstations running Houdini, however users doing particle or fluid simulation should look at least 64GB of RAM to ensure an uninterrupted workflow. Users working on larger, more complex scenes should strive for at least 128GB of RAM, or 256GB+ if they are looking for a workstation on the AMD Threadripper platform.
