How to Choose the Workstation Specs

  • Processor

    Processing workloads within Nuke is largely single-threaded, so clock speed wins over overall core-count, making Intel’s Core i7 and i9 processors, as well as AMD’s Ryzen 7 and 9 processors ideal for this application. Workflows that require a large pool of system memory (RAM) may necessitate moving up to HEDT, such as AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper platform.

  • Graphics Card

    Much like Cinema 4D, the performance of the graphics card installed in a Nuke workstation dictates the framerate that the viewport is able to run at. Complex animations with high polygon counts will require a more powerful GPU, with a significant amount of VRAM. We recommend both Nvidia’s GeForce RTX, as well as AMD’s Radeon cards for this application.

  • Memory

    Similar to Adobe After Effects, Nuke can consume a lot of system memory when rendering out a project. We recommend a minimum of 128GB, which is achievable on Intel and AMD’s mainstream desktop platforms, but advanced users may need to look towards AMD’s Threadripper platform which will allow for 256GB+ of RAM.
