How to Choose the Workstation Specs
Processor
Like most digital audio workstation software, the number of tracks and plugins that are being used will dictate the processing requirements, with most projects requiring between 16 – 32 cores (e.g. Intel Core i9 or AMD Ryzen 9) to run well, and more complex projects requiring 32 – 64 cores. AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper processors are currently the best high core-count processors, as they also offer a moderately high clock speed.
Graphics Card
There is no requirement of the graphics card in a digital audio workstation beyond having to push a signal to the desired display. In many cases an integrated GPU is all that will be required. A dedicated GPU is only needed when the user wishes to use more displays that the integrated GPU and motherboard’s display outputs can provide.
Memory
The amount of memory required to run FL Studio well will depend on the number of tracks and plugins that you typically work with in your projects. While FL Studio doesn’t require as much RAM as other DAWs, for users working with moderate to high track counts we recommend 32GB – 64GB and 128GB+ for users that work on extremely complex arrangements.
