How to Choose the Workstation Specs
Processor
For heavy DAW workloads, where are high number of tracks and plugins are being used, a CPU with a high core count is recommended. For users working on projects with moderate to high complexity, we recommend a minimum of 16 cores. With more demanding projects being able to utilise 32+ cores, AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper processors are perfectly suited for production in Ableton Live.
Graphics Card
There is no requirement of the graphics card in a digital audio workstation beyond having to push a signal to the desired display. In many cases an integrated GPU is all that will be required. A dedicated GPU will only needed when the user wishes to use more displays that the integrated GPU and motherboards display outputs can provide.
Memory
The amount of memory required to run Ableton Live well will depend on the number of tracks and plugins that you typically work with in your projects. For most users we recommend 64GB, however, for users that work on complex arrangements can require 128GB or more to meet their needs.
